WHAT IS PODIATRY?

Podiatry is the clinical discipline (also known as chiropody) concerned with the diagnosis and comprehensive management of foot and lower limb pathologies.  This involves the management of a wide variety of disorders, injuries and local manifestations of underlying conditions.

Podiatric management may be curative, preventative or require long-term treatment or health education.

What conditions can a chiropodist / podiatrist assist with?

General: - corn and callous - verruca (plantar warts) - skin disorders/infections - nail pathology - footwear advice - foot health education and self care advice Sports: - foot pain and injuries including sprains, heel pain, stress fractures and foot posture related injuries such as ankle, shin & knee pain.

Specific: - nail surgery - cryotherapy - biomechanical assessments - sports injury management - orthotic devices/arch supports - advice on conditions that may affect the feet including diabetes, arthritic conditions, and those affecting the circulatory, nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
